Today in Ms. Kirk's STEM ELA class, they conducted a lab where they burned three different kinds of food. Students have been reading The Outsiders which involves the accidental burning of a church. The lab allowed students to physically see the time/energy it takes for objects to burn, so they could reflect and make the connection to the time/energy it must have taken for the church to burn. Students also hypothesized which of the three foods is most closely related to the wood of the church.
