The Bryan County Board of Education is the governing body of the Bryan County School System. Key duties of the Board include but are not limited to the following:
*Appointing the Superintendent
*Adopting school system policies
*Approving a balanced budget
*Adopting courses of study
*Providing school facilities
*Approving school system personnel
*Monitoring plans for continuous improvement of the school system
The Superintendent is a professional educator appointed by the Board, and serves as Chief Executive Officer responsible for leading and managing school system operations.
The Board consists of a chairman, vice chairman and five members who are elected to staggered, four-year terms from individual districts. The purpose of the regular meeting is to allow for the Board to conduct and act on the business of the school system in public and to allow for public comment.
Members of the public wishing to address the Board during the monthly meeting, regarding matters on the agenda, are asked to sign in prior to the start of the regular meeting. Persons wishing to address the Board regarding matters not on the agenda should contact the Superintendent's Office at least 48 hours in advance so that such items may be scheduled on agenda.
Most regular monthly meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, rotating between the Community Education Center building located at 120 Constitution Way, Richmond Hill, GA and the Board of Education Office building located at 8810 Hwy 280 East, Black Creek, GA.
