The Bryan County Prekindergarten Program provides child-centered learning experiences for children who meet age eligibility by turning 4 years of age by September first of each school year. Each class is staffed with a 20-2 student/teacher ratio with 20 being the maximum class size. There are two prekindergarten centers in Bryan County, Pembroke Prekindergarten and Richmond Hill Prekindergarten.  Children are chosen by a lottery drawing each spring.
The full day program provides a language-rich environment in which early learners are introduced to the formal educational setting that begins in Kindergarten. All Pre-K programs in Bryan County use the High Scope Curriculum which emphasizes a child-centered environment that allows children to learn to make learning choices and to interact appropriately with the school environment. The curriculum involves active learning and provides the children with age appropriate materials. Pre-literacy and pre-math skills are emphasized throughout the curriculum.
There are currently 11 state-funded Pre-K classes with the Bryan County School System (4 in Pembroke and 7 in Richmond Hill). The children who participate in the Pre-K program enter Kindergarten with the readiness skills necessary to be successful lifelong learners!
The Pre-Kindergarten Program is funded entirely by the Georgia State Lottery and is considered to be one of the finest educational programs in the nation. The school system currently serves 220 four year olds each year. However, there are always more children seeking spaces in Prekindergarten than there are seats available, and for that reason the school system uses a lottery process as the fairest method of filling classes. Each class has a maximum class size of 20 children.
Prekindergarten Registration for 2010-2011 will begin on Monday, February 01, 2010. Parents may obtain registration materials from the system website www.bryan.k12.ga.us under the Prekindergarten menu option or  at the following locations beginning February 01, 2010: Pembroke Prekindergarten at the Bryan County Board of Education located at 66 South Industrial Blvd, Pembroke, GA from 9 AM until 2 PM daily and at the Richmond Hill Prekindergarten at Community Education Center located at 120 Constitution Way from 9 AM until 2 PM daily. All registration materials must be received at the registration location no later than the day of the lottery drawing.  Children MUST turn 4 years old on or before September 1, 2010 to be age-eligible for the program.
Parents will need to bring the following documents in order to be eligible to participate in the lottery process (your application is not considered accepted until it has been received by the Project Director with the following documents)*:

  • Original certified birth certificate
  • Proof of residency (electric, gas or water bill, apartment lease, mortgage statement, or house contract) Parents may only register at the school that serves their legal address.
  • Child’s Social Security Number
  • Photo Identification
  • 2010-2011 Prekindergarten application

A lottery drawing will take place at each center (Pembroke Center March 08, 2010 at 4:30 PM and Richmond Hill Prekindergarten Center on March 11, 2010 at 4:00 PM).   All registration documents must be received prior to beginning the lottery drawing.  Families not in attendance the day of the lottery will be notified if their child’s name was drawn in the lottery process.  All children not chosen will be placed in a waiting pool until spaces become available.

*Once your application has been accepted in the lottery drawing additional registration forms will be required to participate in the program.
